Calls to defund or abolish ICE must go hand-in-hand, because they are both two sides of the same dangerous coin: American policing and surveillance. This paper series will examine the similarities, overlap, and partnership between local police and ICE, as well as the sources of power that allow both ICE and police to continue abuses with full discretion and little to no oversight or accountability. And, it will highlight the work ahead and some key steps that are needed to make a real, long-term impact in preventing further abuses and helping all communities achieve true safety.
