The existing literature on the traumatic impact of incarceration shows a need for further research, and specifically research that acknowledges incarceration as traumatic, explores healing modalities, and uplifts the voices and experiences of directly impacted people. This exploratory qualitative study therefore seeks to demonstrate the parallels between intimate partner abuse and state abuse from the perspective of those who experienced both: criminalized survivors of sexual and intimate partner abuse.
