In this report, Defending Rights & Dissent (DRAD) details the toll of police mayhem and how individuals harmed strove to find some degree of accountability, transparency, and justice through the legal system. The lawsuits tell shocking stories: lives derailed, permanent injuries, and lasting damage. At the same time, the lawsuits show activists fiercely committed to exposing police harm, seeking redress, and fighting for forward-looking reform.We publish this report to amplify their stories and light a way forward for cities, states, and the federal government to fundamentally reposition their responses to protest.
